Grinding, also known as juking, freak dancing or freaking is a type of close partner dance originated in the late 90’s in Puerto Rico, also gaining protagonism in nearby countries like Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, and thanks to tourism, United States. This dance style consists in two or more dancers rubbing or bumping their bodies against each other, most often with a female dancer rubbing her buttocks against a male dancer’s crotch area
The name in Spanish is ‘perreo’, which comes from the resemblance it has to the movement that dogs (perros) make when copulating.
