In the shade of palm trees and against the turquoise waves of the Dominican Republic, Madisin Rian has become one of the delightful new faces of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2023. Behind the camera was the famous photographer James Makari, who managed to capture not only Rian, but also other modeling stars – Katie Austin, Camilla Kostek, Haley Klauson, Brooks Nader and Lauren Chan.
Madisin Rian, who has been working in the industry for 15 years, in 2018 became the first black female face of the Giorgio Armani Beauty cosmetics brand. Her portfolio includes collaborations with such well-known brands as Polo Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Stuart Weitzman. Six years ago, Rian decided to shave her head and has never regretted this decision. She calls this move one of the most liberating decisions of her life. And so, in 2023, she first appears in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

Rian’s photo shoot took place in the exclusive private community of Cap Cana, a tropical oasis in the Punta Cana area, Dominican Republic. This place is known for its luxurious service, white sandy beaches, sea cliffs and a variety of wildlife. Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina & Villas Cap Cana is located here, which is an ideal place for outdoor enthusiasts. It is not surprising that this place was chosen for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2023 photo shoot.

The focus of this photo shoot turned out to be the style itself – the SI Swimsuit team decided to use it on the eve of the summer premiere of the film “Barbie” from director Greta Gerwig. Rian’s photo shoot style fully embodied the ideas of “Barbiecore”. The swimwear was sexy and playful, radiating powerful feminine energy. We see a lot of bright pink color, bold patterns and strong silhouettes suitable for the most iconic doll.

The team of professionals who worked on the creation of this image included hair stylist Adam McLay, who used Rene Furterer products, and makeup artist Tracy Murphy from Statement Artists, who used Koh Gen Do cosmetics. Throughout the photo shoot, Madisin Rian posed in various swimwear, including models from Gottex, BANANHOT, Ola Vida, Cleonie Swim, GOD SAVE QUEENS, Gonza, HAUS OF PINKLEMONAID, SIE Swim and Monica Hansen Beachwear. Accessories were selected for each image – earrings from Christian Lacroix and Alexis Bittar, as well as bracelets provided by New York Vintage.
