The lithosphere is the outer and rigid layer of the Earth with variable depth (between 10 and 50 km) and it is made up of the brittle crust, silicates and the top part of the upper mantle.
Silicates, for their part, are the group of minerals with the greatest abundance since they represent 95% of the earth’s crust, in addition to the mineral group of most geological importance because they are petrogenic, meaning that they form rocks.
And what is a mineral, you might be asking? A mineral is a natural substance, with a defined chemical composition, normally solid and inorganic, with a certain crystalline structure. A mineral is different from a rock, since the latter can be an aggregate of minerals or non-minerals that do not have a specific chemical composition.
