BDSM is an acronym for the practice of ‘bondage’, ‘domination’, ‘submission’ and ‘sadomasochism’ between consensual sexual partners. And since July 24th was “World BDSM Day,” Pornhub Insights leveraged its data to learn which BDSM terms are most popular and which gender and age groups are most likely to search for BDSM. See what was discovered:
In addition to “BDSM”, the most popular searches on Pornhub include “bondage”, “slave”, “latex” and “spanking”. When combined, the hundreds of BDSM-related terms make up about 1.5% of all Pornhub searches. When preparing your next BDSM party, statistics indicate that “latex” trumps “leather” and blindfolds are another popular fetish accessory.
Women are proportionally 86% more likely to search “BDSM” when compared to men. When comparing age groups, visitors aged 55+ are more likely to search for BDSM terms, with those aged 65+ searching +13% more when compared to all other ages. Visitors aged 35-44 are least likely to search for BDSM.
Compared to men, women are 163% more likely to search for “gay bdsm”, perhaps unsurprising as we previously found that many women enjoy watching porn with gay men. (See Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys).
Interestingly, female visitors to Pornhub are also 160% more interested in content that shows people being spanked and touched, 144% more in “battered dad” videos, and 105% more in “beating punishment” themed content. Before attempting this at home, ask your partner’s permission before engaging in spanking and other aspects of BDSM, but our data shows that this can be a turn-on for many women.
Worldwide, Hong Kong visitors are proportionally the most interested in researching BDSM at +61% compared to the world average. It also tends to be more popular in European countries like Switzerland (+51%), Germany (+50%), Austria (+47%) and the Netherlands (+37%). The average Brazilian shows little interest in the fetish.
